Sick notes

A sick note is not needed for an illness lasting less than 7 days. For periods of less than 7 days your employer may ask you to complete a Self certification form, known as an SC2. These can be obtained from your employer or on the HMRC website by clicking on the highlighted link here.

More information can be found on the DirectGov website here.

Proof of Sickness

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of Statutory Sick Pay. This is usually in the form of a Sick note from the Doctor, however evidence can also be provided by someone other than the GP such as your dentist. A Sick Note is now known as a Statement of Fitness for Work or a 'Fit Note'.
