Wellfield Medical Centre is a Teaching Practice. All of the Doctors are Trainers in General Practice and teach both Medical Students and Doctors training to be General Practitioners.
To become a General Practitioner in the UK a Doctor must spend a period of time at a special training Practice.These Practices are run by GP’s skilled in Medical Education and sanctioned by the University to train other Doctors. Wellfield Medical Centre is such a Practice.
As well as training Doctors to be GP’s we also give junior Doctors destined for other medical specialties experience in General Practice. Furthermore the Practice helps to train Medical Students to become future Doctors and as a patient you may well come across such students in the company of one of the Senior Doctors. Most patients are happy to be seen with a Medical Student but should you feel you don’t want to, please tell the receptionist when you book in and she will arrange for the student to see someone else instead. Non-urgent advice: Notice
We don’t only teach doctors but also pharmacists and nurses and physicians associates – we train a wide variety of specialities. During your visit you may be seen by a student. If you do not wish this, please advise your Doctor or reception.
When seeing a trainee doctor, they may ask to record the consultation. Should you not wish your consultation recording please advise them as such.
